Seattle Central Library

One of the Best Places to visit in Seattle, WA

Why would I recommend a library as a tourist stop?

Well, as a lover of books, bookstores and libraries, I love these spots anyway. However, even if you aren’t a book lover, this particular library is a feast for the eyes, making this one of the best places you should visit on a trip to Seattle. If you appreciate architecture at all, this is a must. Oh, and obviously it’s free. Located centrally downtown on 4th avenue, it is easy to add to any itinerary you have planned for Seattle (please check my other posts for great ideas!), and be sure to walk by, ride a few escalators and check out this gorgeous building.

The teen section of the library has a coffee shop and cozy couches, I would have LIVED in this library as a teen!!
Bright yellow escalators bring you to all 9 floors, elevators are available for anyone who needs them, however not with the same ambiance.
There is something down right magical about the angled windows, elaborate framework and brightly colored furniture and accents that destroy your antiquated ideas of dark, cozy libraries smelling of old books (which I also enjoy). This is a library to savor on a totally different level, one with dozens of computers on multiple floors, lots of study space and bright light and beauty surrounding it all.

Due to current covid restrictions, we were unable to view the higher levels of the Seattle Central Library and the famed red floor, so I will add to this post when those areas open to the public again. Well worth the visit even before that opens back up, so don’t wait! Here’s the link to their website so you can check out their hours. Seattle Central Library
We found street parking for $1 ! on a Friday afternoon and just walked around to this, Sky View Observatory and then meandered around downtown and Pike Place Market. There are many parking garages in the area, so you have lots of options. Ideal parking is hit or miss depending on when you go.  Click on this link here Seattle Sky View Observatory for my post on why Sky View Observatory is a must place to visit while in the area.

Love it! Yes, it’s an unknown architectural marvel. Be sure to extend your date night with the hubby by going to see the great views, drinks and lite bites at Seattle SkyView Observatory! And of course, I’ve got a post on that you should check out…
