Bring on the Self-Care!

Too busy on a vacation with the kids to get any time for yourself? Trapped in a hotel room at 6pm and it’s not about you after that? I call bullshit.

Sister, you can and you will take time for yourself.Yes, the underneath your sink is full of beautiful face masks, eye patches, hair masks, hair products, beautiful shit to go all over your body – scrubs etc.  You are probably like me and even have some teeth whitening powders, and all sorts of other bullshit, but never actually makes it to your face, right? Well, no more, because it’s time to put yourself first. Truly it only takes five minutes sometimes. I’ve been that mama trapped in that hotel at 6 PM and on a Dry January challenge that kept me with a five-year-old and nothing to do, and no glass of red wine. What the hell was I supposed to do? Well, let me tell you, I now bring with me an arsenal of that which used to reside underneath my sink. Literally, you can do your teeth whitening one night after the kiddos asleep, shower with a body scrub in a hotel shower (that you do not have to worry about turning cold because the hot water is not on your bill), use that eyepatch to get out the bags underneath your eyes gone, and everything else you can find.   I tend to bring at least one pampering item every night that I am away.  In fact, a face mask, eyepatch, hair mask, and then the micro-derm scrub can all be done in one night.  Literally zero excuses on why you aren’t doing it. Here are some of my current favs if you need some ideas: Rodan & Fields  Microdermabrasion paste

  • gentle sugar & salt scrub (and I have sensitive skin), that makes your skin feel smooth and luxurious after one time. Buy tub or an individual one time use packages set for travel. http://www.rodanandfields.com

Sun Bum Hair Mask

  • I don’t know about you but my hair cannot handle the south where it’s super dry or the beach where it gets all salty and unmanageable curls and waves in a mess of whatever. Lucky for me Sun Bum have this lovely revitalizing yummy banana smelling coconut hair mask that renews it before I head back home. Ulta- Sun Bum Hair Mask

Love Beauty Foods Smile Dust

  • A natural teeth whitener this hundred percent natural and vegan product is a powder that you mix with water and use with your toothbrush just a piece size amount will do and helps to whiten your teeth. I always have the best of tensions of using this at home but as you can imagine that has never once happened. However, if I toss this in my suitcase and in my make up bag on a trip I end up doing it religiously. https://www.lovebeautyfoods.com/

PMD Beauty’s PMD Clean

  • This tool is as Functional as it is pretty. It vibrates and has a hearing center on the other side that allows your normal skin care especially your face wash to penetrate a little just a little deeper into your pores to clean, tone and firm the skin on your face. PMD Beauty Clean

Body Scrubs

  • These tend to come in obnoxiously large tubs and I end up forgetting to grab them on a trip. However, why not put a small amount into a travel size tub or even a ziplock bag and cart it along? Your body will thank you.

  • We all have versions of these amazing hair products that it supposed to be put in you are leaving conditioner or before or after hair drying products to smooth curl whatever it is. What I’m telling you is bring those on your trip grab two of them that are completely different and shove them in your bag and try them out while you’re on vacation. If your hair is anything like mine and it gets destroyed with different climates it is at least a great test to see if one of these is your magic cure because trust me you’re probably like me and just shove your hair and a bun when you’re at home and work and it doesn’t matter.

 A Self-Care Face Routine

  • Did you know that this is the order (and yes, each step) you should be doing to your face twice a day?
  1. Face wash
  2. Toner
  3. Exfoliant
  4. Serum
  5. Face cream (with SPF if day)
  6. Eye cream
  7. Bonus: Eye lash serum at night if you have it
  8. Chapstick (what? Just me? Ok then)

Start this routine on vacation. Swear to God it doesn’t take more than a few minutes. I timed it for you….took me just over 2 min. Without rushing. So, while at the hotel or waiting for the child to stop calling out mama, you are done. And maybe a little happier because of it. You’re welcome.  I am a firm believer that vacation is the perfect time to start making good habits with your facial self-care routines.  Many times the things that have sat ignored on my counter or underneath my cupboard in the bathroom for years, have been my new favorites once I bring them on a trip and then I start using them regularly at home, and that’s the real goal!
