Carla Reese
Traveling Nurse, Mother & Adventurer
Well, Hey there! I’m Carla Reese, A local to the NW area and always in search of adventure, near or far. I’m A nurse by trade, and that allows me the freedom with those 12 hour shifts, to get out and about on my days off (after some serious zombie sleep since I work night shift).
Whether I’m exploring my local area for new haunts and great eats, or out on a cross state roadtrip or quick flight down SDX to California to peel back another layer of attractions, you can bet I’m off finding fun and tacos.
I’ve got a hubby that isn’t always able to get out of town and travel, so when he’s not available, I grab our 5 year old, A friend, go solo, or try and convince my older teens to hang with mom.
The last two years have tested us all greatly, and in different ways. I’ve found my escape by changing the scenery, getting deeper into the mountains in my State of Washington (not hard), a farm stay AirBnB within an hour of our home, or hitting up the sunny beaches of SoCal.
We have a great love for animals in this family, so there will be posts on different zoos, big and small.
When I plan a big trip (Kauai this summer!!), I over plan to the point of creating my own notebooks that I probably could market as tour guide books all on their own! Months, upon months of 2am google searches, read every book on the area, to make sure there isn’t a food truck, odd local attraction, trail, or beach I miss.
Wanna know the best beach for your littles to play? How about the best loco loco on the island? What about the very best cocktail overlooking the sunset? Rest assured, I’ve spent the hours to find it for you, so you don’t have to. The best compliments I receive are when someone asks me to find something fun for them, in their hometown. Sometimes it’s easy to look for something new and exciting when on vacation, but we neglect our own areas. So I’m going to take the time to focus on Seattle and the surrounding areas as well.
There’s a special joy that happens when we “rediscover” our home in A new way.
What’s the deal with the Self-care section?
Yes, I’m a nurse, so healthcare and self-care is important to me. However, prior to becoming a nurse, I was a massage therapist for 15 years. I specialized in Cancer Care, Hospice, Cranio-sacral, Reflexology, Hot Stone Massage, Deep-Tissue, guided meditation with massage, Hawaiian Lomi-Lomi, and other spa treatments. It was a career I truly loved, but alas, the world had other plans, as it often does.
Even though, I’m no longer in the massage therapy game (maybe someday I will head back there), I’ve taken that self-care importance into my life since then. I am a lifelong learner, always exploring new modalities for relaxation and health, and truly believe we need to make the time for ourselves, so we can be present and care for others. I am excited to share some of my favorite techniques and ideas for self-care routines at home and on the go. Let’s get started!
I’d also love to learn from my readers as well, so please email me and let me know what topics you like to see, or your favorite self-care routines or travel spots!
From my family to yours, get out there and make some memories!!
